How do I install the G16E-GTS kit?Updated 19 minutes ago
These steps are for the Hydraulic Lash Adjusters with Rocker Retainers kit on the GR Yaris and GR Corolla.
Before you start
- The engine stays in the car. We recommend dropping the timing and removing the camshafts. Fitting with the cams in is possible, but it's much harder.
- Allow 4 to 6 hours.
- Watch the G16E-GTS install video first.
Prepare the lash adjusters
We recommend soaking the hydraulic lash adjusters in clean engine oil for 30-60 minutes before installation. Do not insert any objects into the lash adjusters, as this can damage the internal one-way valve.
While it's apart
- Keep track of the valve caps on top of each valve stem.
- Fit a clip to each rocker so it locates in the groove of the new lash adjuster.
- Refit the tappet cover seals and gaskets, or the rockers can suffer oil loss.
Do I need to shim anything?
No. Hydraulic lash adjusters set their own clearance under oil pressure. Your factory rocker arms (Toyota 13801-25010) are reused unchanged.
Solid Pivot Conversion kit
The solid lifter kit isn't a drop-in part. It needs a solid lifter camshaft and professional lash setup by a machine shop. See G16E-GTS: hydraulic lash adjusters or solid lifters?
