SR20: hydraulic lash adjusters or solid lifters?Updated 34 minutes ago
A known SR20 weak point is rocker arms dislodging on the limiter, during a misfire, or on an over-rev. Both of our kits use the same retainer clip to reduce that risk. The difference is the lifter.
Hydraulic Lash Adjusters with Rocker Retainers
Best for: street cars, drift and track cars on hydraulic cams.
- Drop-in replacement for the factory lash adjusters
- No valve lash to set, because oil pressure takes up the gap
- Gives the SR20DE and SR20DET rocker retention similar to the spring clips on the GTI-R
Solid Pivot Conversion with Rocker Retainers
Best for: serious high-RPM, high-horsepower builds.
- Replaces the hydraulic lash adjusters with solid lifters for precise valve control at high RPM
- Designed for Kelford Cams 186-series solid lifter camshafts. Don't run solid lifters on a hydraulic cam.
- Needs professional setup and lash adjustment
What rev limit can I run with hydraulic lash adjusters?
There's no single number. It depends on your valve springs, cam profile and lift, oil condition, tune and overall setup. If you're chasing high RPM, solid lifters are the more robust answer. That's why they exist.
Not a band-aid
Rocker Retainers add a safety margin but don't make the rocker arms stronger or fix a poorly set up engine. We still strongly recommend:
- Correctly shimmed dual rocker guides
- A well-tuned fuel cut rev limiter
