SR20DE and SR20DET rockers are held in place only by valve spring pressure. On the limiter, a misfire or an over-rev, a rocker can dislodge. Our kits are designed to hold it in place.

<p>The rocker arms in the SR20DE and SR20DET hydraulic head aren&apos;t fixed in place. One end sits on the lash adjuster, the other on the valve, and only valve spring pressure holds them there.</p><h3 id="what-goes-wrong">What goes wrong</h3><p>A known SR20 weak point is rocker arms dislodging on the rev limiter, during a misfire, or on an over-rev such as a missed shift. Anything that unloads the valve spring for a split second can let a rocker walk off its lash adjuster.</p><p>Once a rocker is loose, that valve no longer opens properly. You might notice a misfire or low power. If the loose rocker gets caught in the valvetrain, it can cause serious engine damage.</p><p>Nissan fitted spring clips to hold the rockers on the solid lifter GTI-R head from the factory. The SR20DE and SR20DET hydraulic heads in the Silvia, 180SX, 200SX, Pulsar and others didn&apos;t get them.</p><h3 id="how-our-kits-help">How our kits help</h3><p>Both of our SR20 kits replace the factory lash adjusters with Denstoj parts that have a retaining groove, plus a clip over each of the 8 rocker arms:</p><ul><li><strong>Hydraulic Lash Adjusters with Rocker Retainers:</strong> a drop-in replacement for street, drift and track cars on hydraulic cams</li><li><strong>Solid Pivot Conversion with Rocker Retainers:</strong> for serious high-RPM builds with a Kelford Cams 186-series solid lifter camshaft</li></ul><p>In normal running, the clip doesn&apos;t affect how the rocker works. If the rocker tries to lift off, the clip is designed to catch it and hold it in place until valve spring pressure returns. This reduces the risk of a dropped rocker.</p><h3 id="not-a-band-aid">Not a band-aid</h3><p>Rocker Retainers don&apos;t make the rocker arms stronger or raise your safe rev limit, and a severe over-rev can still break the clips. <p>One kit does the whole engine. The SR20 has 16 valves, but each rocker arm opens two valves, so there are 8 rockers to retain.</p>

<p>No. The groove profile and dimensions are critical, and we&apos;ve seen problems when people machine grooves into their own hardened lifters: cutting too deep weakens them, and the wrong profile makes the clip catch in normal running. Which SR20 engines do Denstoj kits fit?

Hydraulic lash adjusters suit most street and track SR20s and need no lash setting. Solid lifters are for serious high-RPM builds with a Kelford 186-series solid cam.

<p>There&apos;s no single number. It depends on your valve springs, cam profile and lift, oil condition, tune and overall setup. If you&apos;re chasing high RPM, solid lifters are the more robust answer. That&apos;s why they exist.</p>

<p>Rocker Retainers add a safety margin but don&apos;t make the rocker arms stronger or fix a poorly set up engine. We still strongly recommend:</p>

SR20: hydraulic lash adjusters or solid lifters?

Soak the lash adjusters in clean oil for 30 to 60 minutes, never push anything into them, and run shimmed guides on both sides of each rocker with heights within 0.025 mm.

<h3 id="before-you-start">Before you start</h3>
<p>We recommend soaking the hydraulic lash adjusters in clean engine oil for 30-60 minutes before installation. Do not insert any objects into the lash adjusters, as this can damage the internal one-way valve.</p>
<h3 id="rocker-guides">Rocker guides</h3>
<p>We recommend guide shims on both sides of each rocker arm to reduce side-to-side movement.</p>
<p>With hydraulic lash adjusters you don&apos;t set valve lash as such, because the lifter takes up the gap once oil pressure reaches the head. Instead, make sure the guide heights are <strong>within +/- 0.025 mm of each other</strong>.</p>

<h3 id="fitting-the-clips">Fitting the clips</h3>
<p>The clips drop in over your existing rocker arms and locate in the groove of the lash adjuster.</p>

<p>The solid pivot conversion needs professional setup and lash adjustment by an experienced engine builder or machine shop, using a solid lifter camshaft.</p>
