Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution (4G63)

Rocker retainers for cast and pressed rocker 4G63 engines: choosing a kit and installation.

Why does the 4G63 need Rocker Retainers?

A 4G63 pushed to high RPM can throw a rocker arm during a misfire, over-rev or limiter hit. Retainer clips are designed to hold the rocker in place and reduce the risk of a costly rebuild.

Which 4G63 Rocker Retainer kit do I need?

It depends on your rocker arms. Evo 1 to 3 engines use cast rockers. Evo 4 to 9 engines use pressed rockers. Each kit is made for one type.

Do the 4G63 kits fit the Eclipse, Talon, Laser or Galant VR-4?

Yes. Our 4G63 Rocker Retainers fit the 1990 to 1999 6-bolt and 7-bolt 4G63 in US DSMs and the Galant VR-4. Choose the kit by your rocker arms: cast or pressed (MD375091).

Why do the 4G63 kits include only clips and no lash adjusters?

The factory 4G63 lash adjusters already have a groove the clip locates in, so you keep them and just add our clips. The 4G63 has one rocker per valve, so the kit has 16 clips.

How do I install 4G63 Rocker Retainers?

The clips fit over your existing rocker arms with no modifications. On cast rocker (Evo 1 to 3) engines, check clearance between each clip and the lash adjuster.
